QR Code Best Practices
Follow these guidelines to create QR codes that scan reliably every time.
Size Recommendations
Use the 10:1 rule: divide scanning distance by 10 to get minimum QR size. A code scanned from 1 meter needs to be at least 10cm. Use our size calculator for precise measurements.
Error Correction Levels
Level L (7%) for clean digital displays. Level M (15%) for general print use. Level Q (25%) when adding small logos. Level H (30%) for logo overlays up to 20% of the code area or damaged/worn surfaces.
Color Contrast
Dark modules on light backgrounds work best. Minimum 3:1 contrast for scannability, 4.5:1 for WCAG AA compliance. Check your colors with our contrast checker.
Testing Before Printing
Always test QR codes at the intended size and scanning distance with iOS and Android devices before mass printing. Test under various lighting conditions and on the actual print material.
URL Best Practices
Use HTTPS URLs. Keep URLs short to reduce QR complexity. Use UTM parameters for campaign tracking. Verify URLs with our security checker before encoding.
